Field Lacrosse Information

Note: For returning players, FYI Lacrosse Canada has revised its age categories which will affect the 2023-24 field season2023 Birth Year Updates.

Lacrosse is Canada’s national summer sport and is considered the fastest game on two feet. New Westminster has a long standing reputation in the game of lacrosse and the New Westminster Minor Lacrosse Association {NWMLA} is proud to offer the youth of New Westminster a positive and safe recreational choice.

NWMLA is proud to offer a developmental program for players of all skill levels to learn the game of field lacrosse. It is run over the Fall/Winter months. There are currently 7 Youth (co-ed) age divisions –  U7, U9, U11, U13, U15, U17, and U19 and 7 Women's (girls-only) age divisions – U7, U9, U11, U13, U15, U17, and U19.

Girls are welcome to register and play with the boys or they can choose to the female game of field lacrosse which is non-contact and quite different to the boys game. Girls field lacrosse is a non-contact sport and it is a game based on stick skills, speed and strategic play. In the younger divisions, girls play a 7vs7 style of game on a half field – the focus is on development of their stick skills, passing and positioning. In the older divisions, girls play 11 vs 11 on a full field.
