Field Lacrosse Information

Lacrosse is Canada’s national summer sport and is considered the fastest game on two feet. New Westminster has a long standing reputation in the game of Lacrosse and the New Westminster Minor Lacrosse Association is proud to offer the youth of New Westminster a positive and safe recreational choice.

NWMLA is proud to offer a developmental program for players of all skill levels to learn the game of field lacrosse.  It is run over the Fall/Winter months.  There are currently 7 youth/boys age divisions – U5, U7, U9, U11, U13, U15 and U18 and 4 girls age divisions – U8, U12, U15 and U19.  Girls are welcome to register and play with the boys or they can choose to the female game of field lacrosse which is non-contact and quite different to the boys game.

The U5 division is a mixed gender division for those born in 2015/16 for the 2020 field season.  This division is strictly fun and skill development and runs on Sundays during the fall for approximately 8 weeks.  All players new to lacrosse in this division receive a free lacrosse stick with their registration!

Girls field lacrosse is non contact sport and it is a game based on stick skills, speed and strategic play. In the U8 and U12 divisions, girls play a 7vs7 style  of game on a half field – the focus is on development of their stick skills, passing and positioning.   In the U15 and U19 divisions, girls play 11 vs 11 on a full field.
